Tell us about a subject you enjoy studying.

Hi everyone! This time I will talk to you about the subject I like to study the most: Social History of Chile. Social History of Chile is a subject that covers the entire history of the country from the colony to the end of the 20th century, from the social perspective, that is, the history from the popular sectors. I really enjoy this subject, because it is a new bet to analyze the history of Chile, since at school we are always taught this history from the point of view of the elites, but not from the other side. For this reason, I have learned too much in this subject about the processes of peonage, urbanization, politicization, mobilizations, the formation of workers' parties, the birth of populations, etc. from the popular sectors. Before studying this subject, I always loved the subject of History in general, it was my favorite subject in all my years of school, but I did not know in depth the Social History of Chile from the perspective of these sectors, so knowing this sub...

Tell us about an expert person in your field that you admire.

Mary Richmond Mary Richmond was a noted social worker, born in 1861 in the United States. She was raised by her grandmother, a feminist activist, which guided her to form a critical and thinking attitude about the demands in front of the world. She is considered as the woman who established Social Work as a profession, since she implemented theories, techniques, etc. that turned the notion of Social Work as solely charitable work, through, for example, home visits and philanthropy, into a profession that seeks the emancipation of people. This was achieved by working based on her knowledge, ideals, perseverance and conviction. I admire her because she was a leading woman in the history of Social Work, even though being a woman at that time was even more complicated because they were seen as inferior to men. Overthrowing all these stereotypes, she was able to establish Social Work as a profession and influence thousands of people in the emancipation of it, for which she directed the hori...

How Can Your Major Make the World a Better?

Hi everyone! This time I will talk about the major I study: Social Work. Social Work is a profession that is practiced and developed under various approaches. From contemporary approaches, Social Work provides the necessary tools to intervene in processes and systems, in order to empower communities regarding emerging problems in their lives. In this sense, I see myself as a professional exercising my work with the aim of generating changes that serve to contribute to a better development of society, either by facing inequality in low-income sectors, working with the needs of children, with the elderly people, with people who suffer violence, etc. Social Work benefits the world because its work is carried out in order to contribute to improving it; intervene under a real understanding of the situations in which it is faced, from a perspective of justice and human rights.

A Photo and its Story.

My sister's birth. This was the first photo of my little sister in this world, taken on November 3, 2014. Her name is Amelia, and my mother's name that appears next to her is Claudia. This photo is very important to me, since Amelia's birth is my greatest happiness in life, she came into the world when I was 12 years old and she became the light of my eyes. I am interested in this photo since my sister's pregnancy stage was very complicated, my mother once broke down and almost lost Amelia, for which throughout the pregnancy we were constantly afraid since it was a too delicate and risky pregnancy, and that she was born safe and sound was a miracle for us, which is depicted in the photo. Every time I see this photo, I remember the happiness of the moment, and what would be the love of my life: my little sister.💕💖
