My name is María Paz Medina González and I was born on February 12, 2002. I studied in elementary school at the Santa Mónica school, in high school I studied at the Liceo N1 Javiera Carrera and I am currently studying Social Work at the University of Chile. In my family we are five people: my mother is 42 years old and studied Physics at the University of Santiago, I have two sisters, the youngest is 6 years old and studies at the Colegio Adventista, and my middle sister is 14 years old and studies at the Liceo N1 Javiera Carrera, and my father is 43 years old and he is the general manager of a food restaurant called “El Ternero” which is located in Ñuñoa. In my spare time, I dance in a collective called Tinkus Legua, in which I dance most of the time Tinkus, a dance originally from Potosí, Bolivia. I also organize myself in territorial organizations in my neighborhood, which is the town of La Legua, San Joaquín.

Goodbye friends😊

Tell us about a subject you enjoy studying.

Hi everyone! This time I will talk to you about the subject I like to study the most: Social History of Chile. Social History of Chile is a subject that covers the entire history of the country from the colony to the end of the 20th century, from the social perspective, that is, the history from the popular sectors. I really enjoy this subject, because it is a new bet to analyze the history of Chile, since at school we are always taught this history from the point of view of the elites, but not from the other side. For this reason, I have learned too much in this subject about the processes of peonage, urbanization, politicization, mobilizations, the formation of workers' parties, the birth of populations, etc. from the popular sectors. Before studying this subject, I always loved the subject of History in general, it was my favorite subject in all my years of school, but I did not know in depth the Social History of Chile from the perspective of these sectors, so knowing this sub...

How did I decide to study Social Work?

Hi everyone! This time I will talk about the career I study. When I was little, I wanted to study when I grew up careers that would help society, and I was determined to study law. Later, when I studied at high school, I began to doubt, so I had as options in addition to law, studying history, sociology, psychology, among other careers. For the same reason, I preferred not to go to university right away to decide well what career to study, so last year I decided to join territorial organizations in my neighborhood, and in the activities we did I discovered that my vocation had to do with action direct in society, so after doing the PSU I finally decided and applied to Social Work. My experience at university so far has been relatively good, since although it has been online, which is very boring, I have gotten used to the system and have had good grades. When I graduate, I would like to work in the territories, with the people, with the childhoods, and feel that I can contribut...

Tell us about an expert person in your field that you admire.

Mary Richmond Mary Richmond was a noted social worker, born in 1861 in the United States. She was raised by her grandmother, a feminist activist, which guided her to form a critical and thinking attitude about the demands in front of the world. She is considered as the woman who established Social Work as a profession, since she implemented theories, techniques, etc. that turned the notion of Social Work as solely charitable work, through, for example, home visits and philanthropy, into a profession that seeks the emancipation of people. This was achieved by working based on her knowledge, ideals, perseverance and conviction. I admire her because she was a leading woman in the history of Social Work, even though being a woman at that time was even more complicated because they were seen as inferior to men. Overthrowing all these stereotypes, she was able to establish Social Work as a profession and influence thousands of people in the emancipation of it, for which she directed the hori...
